Education & Training

Thirteen years ago, what began as a simple idea has grown into a powerful movement. Today, Run for a Cure Africa Cameroon stands stronger than ever in its mission to ease the suffering of women and men fighting breast cancer through education, early screening, and support for treatment. When we started, breast cancer was often considered a taboo subject—something that brought shame and silence. Today, thanks to the efforts of many, the conversation is open, and more people are seeking the care they need.
My involvement began when my sister and friend, Virginie K., moved back to the United States and shared the inspiring success of Run for a Cure Africa in Nigeria. Her story touched me deeply because it aligned perfectly with my passions for women’s health, standing up for the less fortunate and giving back to the community. Without hesitation, I said, “Let’s do it.” Along the way, our dear friend Sylvie N. joined us and with that, we formed the core team and launched Run for a Cure Africa Cameroon in July 2012, with seed financial support from the parent organization, Run for A cure Africa and support from our friends, families and few corporations.
Our first mission was simple yet urgent: start the conversation. We organized a walk/run to raise awareness and followed up with our very first free screening campaign, offering imaging to every woman and man who came the following year. Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to fight breast cancer with the aim of targeting the disease at its earliest stages, where survival rates are highest. Our ultimate goal is to reverse the odds—turning a 90% mortality rate into a 90% survival rate.
The journey has not been without challenges, but the support of our community, corporate partners, hospitals, and volunteers continues to fuel our resolve. We have lost some battles, but we have also celebrated victories and witnessed lives saved. The work ahead is vast, especially as the disease increasingly affects younger generations.
I am proud to stand with Run for a Cure Africa Cameroon, continuing the fight for awareness, early detection, and life-saving care. Together, we can change the story of breast cancer in our country. Would you join us?
